About This Blog

I’ve tried blogging many times before, being defeated usually by lack of time.  Last time I revisited my blogs I discovered that Blogger had been taken over by Google, aka Gobble, which is apparently intent on devouring everything in its path and taking over the world.  I therefore abandoned any thought of further blogging until I found another way.

Behold! – that other way has appeared, in the form of WordPress, a system that really puts the blogger in control.  It first came to my notice as the power behind Fifteensquared, a blog devoted to the cryptic crosswords published in certain newspapers.  Then, a few days ago, a new title showed up on Safari Books Online: Building a WordPress Blog People Want to Read by Scott McNulty.  So here I am – I’ve built the blog; whether people will want to read it remains to be seen.

As a first step, I’m reproducing my original blogs in these pages.  There were two separate blogs, reflecting my two main (cerebral) passions in life.  The first, We Call It Music, was a series of glimpses of the traditional jazz scene in England through the eyes of a professional musician (me); the second, The Ring Of Words, was a platform for my decidedly conservationist views on the current state of the English language.  This new blog combines the two while preserving the original distinction by allocating each post to the category of either Music or Words.  So you can select one or the other from the Categories menu to see all posts so far, or you can trawl the Archives month by month.  Over to you!
